Not always ribbons.....

14/05/2013

...........sometimes we do go out and play.  Maybe not what you thought Mr & Mrs Craftyribbons would get up to, but  I spotted this, and I thought of work........

.....it just made me giggle.  Cross stitch on a car, not using embroidery thread or even ribbon, but it is cross stitch!

What were we doing looking at cars?  Well............... we have a bad boy in the family................

Meet Scooby.  He is (one) of Tony's cars and he had an outing to Japfest at the weekend.  Tony watched all the cars on the track, while I photographed all that moved.  I have just got a point and shoot camera, and I pointed it at everything!!!!!

Scoobies are known for the back ends!

This tickled me, a line of big laddies showing off their bottoms.

I did try and persuade Tony that scooby could do with a re-spray

Nope that did not go down well. Tony driving a PINK car, a PINK Scooby car!  I bought him a pink shirt a while back and told him it was raspberry.  He wore it quite happily until a customer at an exhibition asked him for a pink ribbon the same colour as his shirt!

Back to ribbons - you all liked the stripe ribbons I see.  Nice summery, deckchair-ish ribbons I would agree, but today I am freezing.  I have my body warmer, scarf and gloves on and have even thought about making a hot water bottle!!  Why has it gone so cold.  It is pouring with rain, we have a metal roof and the rain is so heavy we can hardly hear each other.  I have spent the last two days making things for a special event we are holding next week (will tell you more later in the week) but at this rate I should have made them waterproof!!!

Syd picked the winner of this weeks Friday FREEBIE (sorry been moonlighting as a portrait photographer, Syd had been watching me and wanted some photos taken! WOW look at that white background.)

No sign of new nail growth but I had been warned that this may take a long time or not at all.  Fingers crossed it will!
I still have to reduce the swelling, which involes keeping my hand evelated.  Not easy, I walk around looking like Nelson!!

Cor a hot bank holiday!

07/05/2013

A miracle we had a hot Bank holiday, Tony surprised me with a short break down in Cornwall.  I think he got sight of my To Do List and decided that I was just not up to it.  So he got us up early on Saturday morning and said we are off to Cornwall. Yeah! He had booked our favourite hotel tucked down in the middle of nowhere.  We can never find it, and end up finding a different route each time we visit!

We had a fantastic time and the weather was just awesome, such a surprise. We had lunch yesterday in St Ives over looking the Life Boat station, and  the May Day procession came past with brass bands, Cornish music and dancers, May Queens and what topped the day was the May Pole dancing with ribbons!

We decided that we just could not top this, so after lunch we popped into the fudge shop for supplies for the warehouse, then made our way back up the hill to the car.  I hope you all had a great bank holiday. not many comments this week so I think lots of you were also away.

I have the great pleasure in looking after Miss Mollie today, she is sat by the side of me crafting away.  I have just had to tie a bow around a bunch of flowers for her....not easy!

The winner of our Friday FREEBIE wish list is..............................

My biggest wish would have to be a trolley dash through your warehouse, ha ha!! Seriously though, the sewing ribbons are on my list of must haves, plus the dotty ones are ab fab ... Hello wednesday - top 7 cakes

01/05/2013

Don't you just LOVE wednesday's? Say hello to wednesday "hello wednesday" It's all downhill from now on to the weekend - yippee!!!

Sorry no crafty ribbon project from me today, so I decided to share with you my top 7 cake designs from the Cake show we exhibited at two weeks ago.

This one is my favourite, I would love a cake like this.  So full of colour.

How long would it take to make this?

A little bit of fun

Yes this is a cake.

I think this one is funny

This one was stunning.

Not a cake, but look at all the detail

Every entry at the Cake show should have won a prize, they were just awesome creations

Enjoy the sun

Is summer here?

30/04/2013

Dare I ask if summer is on it's way.  It must be getting warmer, the girls have the big warehouse roller shutter door open, they are enjoying the sun shining in.

I will not be around later when the kiddies come home from school, so no "Bingo" bag photo this week.  But your comments touched me so I decided to give the following Friday FREEBIE Bev's bags too..................

Karen J - I'm late this week leaving a comment, but when I saw it was chocolate how could I resist, Dieting at the moment so haven't had chocolate since 9th January!
Now........... there is NO calories in ribbon? Just checking!!

Karen it is year to the week that I started my diet - it is well worth the pain! Please have this calorie FREE chocolate on me.

Denise - Having recently joined a Slimming Club this is my perfect way to enjoy loads of chocolate without incurring the wrath of my consultant!!!  A must for any chocoholic crafter!  You are very courageous woman standing for hours at the Belfast Show -Hope you are on the mend!

I believe that Denise has been commenting on our blog for months but has never won. But Henry our spam filter had been eating all her comments, without her knowing!  She emailed her comment to me last week and I added her to our aloud list.  Denise you are the lady I told about Henry in Belfast?

Margaret - Wow these are so lovely and I can already see a big use for these on some of my cards!! Or even I can see my teenage daughter pinching these so she can use them in her hair!!! lol Thanks for such lovely designs xxx

How could I deprive a teenager from ribbon?  So unfair!

Liz - I was very naughty today and ate a wonderful chocolate tart, so to win some of the calorie free goodies would be perfect. Hope you are on the mend Ali, I still shiver at the thought. Love Liz x

Sorry the thought of the chocolate tart was too temping to miss you out Liz.  Hope you will enjoy the ribbons as much as the tart!

Congratulations girls, please send your address to bev.craftyribbons@gmail.com and she will get your chocolate cakes in the post.

That's the four Bev's bag prize for last weeks Friday FREEBIE, BUT I would like to give another bag to................

Janet - Thanks for the cuppa Ali, I just popped in to the warehouse as I just had my shoulder op last week so thought we could compare war wounds. Ali has been so brave over the past weeks and her finger is still very painful, When I saw her sling I must say I was overwhelmed by the size of it. It was a 'mine is bigger than yours' moment. Have safe weekend to ALL. Janet

It was good to see you on Friday Janet, you seemed so happy and cheerful even though you were all strapped up. It was like having our old Janet back, coming into the warehouse rummaging around for a button to match your crocheting, like you used to!  I know you are unable to craft at the moment, but you can sit and stroke and look at all the ribbons in Bev's bag, planning on what you can make with them once the physios tell you what you can do.

Thank you to everyone that left a wonderful comment - my finger is healing well.  It now has it's own super sweet little splint, it is supposed to remain elevated so I am typing this post while lying on the floor with the keyboard in the air.  Honest!!!

Messed up, in more ways than one

22/04/2013

Sorry, I gather I messed up with the number of prizes for the last Fridays FREEBIE.  There were only four winners but for some strange reason I told Bev there were five.  I am very sorry but I did sort of have something major on my mind..................

I had an accident while loading the van on Sunday evening after the Cake show.  I have loaded the van the same way on numerous Sundays for the past 18 years. The big heavy ribbon roll unit slipped as we slid it into the van and crushed the middle finger of my right hand, rather gruesome but it just looked like a squashed tomato!!  Tony does not "do" blood so I took myself off to First Aid. I scared a security guard almost to death, he could not understand me asking for directions to First Aid, "what you want?" so I showed him my finger. He took me straight there himself.

After spending 4 hours waiting at Newham A&E in London, the Doctor told me there was nothing they could do.  I had an open fracture (if you looked down the tip of my finger you could see the white bone), I needed surgery but as I was not local, the best thing to do would be drive to Dorset and go to my local A&E. I went into uncontrollable shakes, we were 3 hours from home, so the thought of 8 hours before I got seen was unthinkable.  The doctor must have taken pity on me, I was in so much pain, and losing blood, he called a nurse to try and dress the finger while he called first Bournemouth hospital, then Poole and finally Salisbury County Hospital.. He arranged for me to been seen by a plastic surgeon on Monday.  He explained the finger was very badly damaged and may have to be amputated.  Oh my god.

I can not describe the journey home, it was a nightmare, they may chop my finger off.  How could I tell that to my sisters on the phone - so I didn't, I kept it in.

It was an open surgery at Salisbury, so Tony and I just sat waiting, and waiting. I was operated on Monday afternoon by two plastic surgeons and they saved my finger.  I gather it was still alive, although in several bits. They spent over an hour resewing it all back together, I have a finger.  I am not sure what it looks like, finger or what.  I go back to hospital this afternoon, so I will find out more.  I have done some things in the past, but I can assure you this is the most painful experience I have incurred.  The pain is going way above the painkillers, I have to keep my hand above my heart at all times  - BUT I have a finger!

In between this, Tony and I have been at the Belfast show.  Yes I did go, I just could not think of being away from Tony. The Irish ladies really appreciated us coming, you were all so kind.  Pinky brought us cupcakes on Saturday, Angela and Frances delivered a freshly baked apple pie all the way from Dublin.  Alice had me in tears after she deliveried a prezzie and I read her note. Thank you to everyone that was gentle to me.

So here I am, sat waiting to go to hospital - what will I see, what will I find when it is uncovered.  I know the finger nail has been removed but stuck back on, as for the rest..........

On a lighter note, Sam has decided to call me Ali squashed tomato!!!

Ali x

"I think chocolate.... hmmm, yes that is true I DO think chocolate about 10 times a day!!! I just loved the chocolate card, it really looked good enough to eat, so the choccy ribbons would be wonderful"

I love your ribbons, they are so unusual.

Best wishes
Andi

Yippee we are going too!!!

12/04/2013

Had a phone call earlier to say we are needed to help out at Cake International, Ali was panicking that we were running out of our fantastic new ribbons, so could we bring up more, me and Rachie took about two seconds to say YES! The thought of seeing Paul Hollywood made our tummies go all funny, only problem now is how do we tell our husbands!

Hope you all have a fab weekend, I know we will.

Bev & Rachie xx
